BACK TO SCHOOL: AW 18/19 TRENDS

With the arrival of the course, a new cycle begins. Some trends that we had left forgotten at the bottom of the wardrobe come back. Now they rise from their ashes to stay with more strength than ever. Welcome to the trends autumn-winter 2018-2019.

Preppy Classic

As predicted in our book KIDS AW 18/19,  the so-called “New Prep” is reborn with new codes and a new mix that will create many followers. This time it has a wider range of possibilities, it will not be limited only to the traditional look of a posh student at Harvard. Pastel and dark colors in a block, loose silhouettes, bombers, ankle pants and socks, preferably white or with colored stripes. Coat of Arms inspired by the college atmosphere but with a new interpretation of education collected from the 50s.

This trend will be a mix of the super classics with some personal and eccentric touches of each one. A collage style that will not leave anyone indifferent. Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger are two of the references in the fashion world that fit perfectly into this profile.

Campus

The second trend we present is also successful. Flannel shirts and loose silhouettes patterns will be combined with tartan patterns, houndstooth and stripes. These last ones will be main characters with knee high-socks, that will be worn very often along with ankle pants to show off.

Dark colors stand out for their elegance and sobriety in contrast with some other luminous and unexpected shades. Blue, deep red, military green and ochre will be in the first row.

More contemporary and non-gender fashion patterns are combined, with neutral shapes that eliminate gender separation. Positive messages in the garments to face the new course with energy. Accessories include wool caps and jackets and loose coats.

During the first decade of the 2000s, Saint Laurent or Stella McCartney based their signature collections in this aesthetic. Now, the tartan returns to become the star trend of next autumn, but with a new look. The main topic of Versace in its autumn-winter 2018-2019 collection is the clear example of the reign of the Scottish tartan. Other signatures like Michael Kors or Zimmerman are added to this stream, even outside the catwalks we see that the big low-cost firms also place it as the main bet in their fall-winter 2018 collections.

Normcore

The normcore style is the “anti-fashion” style par excellence. Inspired by the 90s, this trend is ideal for children who like to move,  to mix comfortable clothes such as bombers, minimalist shirts, logo sweatshirts, running pants, beige chinos and big sneakers. The good point about this trend is that you can mix and match your outfit with different brands and styles. Thinking about practical, basic, unisex and sports will be key to becoming a true “normcore”. The catwalk of the designer Demna Gvasalia in Balenciaga is an example of this trend.

Knit Fever

Last, but not least, the winter trend par excellence arrives. With the beginning of the season arrive the sweaters, knitted jackets and knitted dresses. Impressive volumes and frills, vibrant jacquards and knitwear worthy of the most important fashion shows of the catwalk. Combined colors, fringes, ruffles, and pompoms generate the richness of this trend. From Stella McCartney Kids to Il Gufo or Burberry, the designers go crazy creating the best outfits for children.
